About Stichting PRO
Stichting PRO is a copyright organisation for Dutch publishers, including publishers of general books, e-books, educational publications, professional and scientific publications, newspapers, daily press, news media, magazines, and journals. These publishers can join Stichting PRO free of charge to claim collective compensation to which they are entitled. Stichting PRO was established in 1997 by the Mediafederatie (formerly the Dutch Publishers Association).
Compensation for Publishers
Publishers can receive compensation through Stichting PRO for the lending of books and magazines in libraries (lending rights, LiteRom), for private copying (thuiskopie), and for copying by businesses, government bodies, and educational institutions (reprorecht). We distribute these funds based on research and data, which we supplement with publishers' own data about their turnover.
Where these funds come from
Stichting PRO receives compensation for publishers from Stichting Leenrecht, Stichting Reprorecht, and Stichting Thuiskopie.
